Learning Reiki
Reiki has to be taught by a
Reiki Master Teacher
Anyone can be taught how to use this wonderful energy and become a healer.
Reiki is taught in three or four levels or degrees.
The first degree is taught in a two day workshop. We need to learn how to heal ourselves before we can become healers and work with others. This teaches you how to heal yourself, friends and family. It includes learning the history and principles of Reiki. You will learn how to meditate and also the basics of the chakra system.
You are also taught how to work with energies.
The second degree is initially taught in a two day workshop and teaches you how to become a practitioner. You are also taught how to use the three sacred symbols. This includes how to send healing with the use of a Distance symbol. Reiki shares are also a part of learning to be a practitioner. It gives you the experience and confidence of working with others
The third degree
Master practitioner level
To become a Reiki Master you really do need to give this some thought because of the commitment and knowledge you need of Reiki.
This level is taught over a period of months and depends on your knowledge and experience of Reiki. This is split into two levels, with the first one you are given a Master Symbol to work with.
The second, you are taught how to attune others to Reiki and also how to teach it.
Reiki shares
It means what is says. All who have been attuned to the Reiki energies can come along and practise working on each other. This helps you to gain confidence and knowledge about Reiki.

Reiki Sessions
The Reiki Practitioner
A practitioner is any person that has been attuned and taught how to work with the Reiki energies.
Reiki is a non invasive therapy. You do not need to remove any clothing. You will be asked to remove your shoes, any heavy jewellery and your glasses (if you wear them). Reiki can be given either sitting in a chair or laying on a treatment couch. Reiki is a form of hands on healing. We all have energy centres in the body called chakras. The chakras are connected to organs, glands and meridian lines in the body. The practitioner places their hands on or over the seven main chakras. This starts off the healing process.
If you are not comfortable with hands on healing, the treatment can be just as effective using the hands a few inches away from the body. Reiki is a very relaxing therapy, often sending you to sleep. Through relaxation the healing process takes place.

Dr Mikao Usui 1865- 1926

The founder and history of Reiki
Reiki is a system of natural healing which is believed to have originated in ancient Tibet. It was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui of Kyoto Japan towards the end of the 19th century. Master Usui developed this system of healing after many years of studying ancient sutras and meditation. Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) combines two Japanese words. The first means free passage. And the second means universal life force energy. Collectively Reiki is ‘The Free Passage of Universal Energy’.
Master Usui dedicated the rest of his life to practising and teaching Reiki.
Before his death Master Usui passed his knowledge onto Mr Chujiro Hayashi who was a commander of the imperial navy of Japan and made him the Reiki Grand Master.
Reiki was brought out to the west in 1936 by Mr Chujiro Hayashi of Japan he was visiting an American student, a lady called Mrs Hawayo Takata who lived in Hawaii. He made her a Reiki Master in 1938. Before his death he made her Reiki Grand master and head of the Reiki Movement. This is why some people think that Reiki is from America.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki, people of all faiths can and do use this system of healing.

The Principles Of Reiki
The following are the original Reiki ideals Mikao Usui taught as part of Japanese Reiki which comes from a more direct lineage. The ideals are said to be written by Mikao Usui on linen and hang in a shrine near his grave. This location is only known to a few trusted individuals.
The following is a line for line translation of this document.
''...The secret art of inviting happiness, the miraculous medicine of all diseases. Just for today, do not anger. Do not worry and be filled with gratitude, Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people. Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer. Pray the words to your heart and chant these words with your mouth.
